Revolution:2020 My review...

Finally completed the book last week. After hearing the title of the book, I thought that this book will be strategic study to develop Indian economy by the year 2020 or some kind of crap. But its an Indian masala with a triangular love story, corrupt politicians, scandals, sex and the state of private educational system in India.

The Story is based on Varanasi, Its revolves around a central character Gopal (narrator), who is a son of a retired bed ridden teacher who are struggling to pay their debts. He gets into trouble in the first meeting with Aarti his classmate who is a pretty daughter of the District Magistrate. That incident makes them friends and both cares for each other. Gopal takes Aarti for in-numerous boat rides and she rings him thrice a day to check whether he ate in time. As they and their seven year friendship grows Gopal starts to love Aarti and expresses the same to her. But she rebuffs him off.

Meanwhile Gopal and his another childhood friend Raghav start to prepare for engineering entrance examinations but both of them neither want to become engineers. Raghav gets through to the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). But Gopal fails to get good rank due to this his father borrows a huge money and send him to Kota in Rajasthan for entrance coaching. Chetan explains how the coaching centers operates and milks money from their students. Gopal fails in the second attempt too and hearing this his father dies. Here back in Varanasi Aarti goes to a graduate college and a relationship develops between her and Raghav. Finally they date each other.

Gopal becomes devastated due the above mentioned events and he decides to team up with a corrupt MLA who offers him to recover his fathers land from his uncle. As the MLA as one of depositor, Gopal starts a college by involving into a lot of mal-practice and becomes the Director of the college. Raghav starts his career in journalism and writes articles against Gopal's college and the MLA. Already vengeful for having lost Aarti to Raghav, the rivalry between the friends begin. As Raghav's focus shifts from Aarti to Journalism, Aarti's focus shifts from Raghav to Gopal (God..WTF..). Who won Aarti is the rest...

              Sonam Kapoor launching the book

I read CB because of the humor element and his narration style which resembles the way our dear friends sharing a story or a gossip. But this book lacks a good story, narration, humour and not at all related to the title. Chetan's description of a job fair where brothers who have fallen apart compete to market their own private colleges is a LOL moment from the book. But the good stuff ends there. I can't accept the fact that this book is from the same author of "Five point Someone" and "Two States".

My Rating : 1.5 Out of 5.
Verdict : Revolution 2020 is a below average, cliched love story that strives to pretend more than what it is by weaving in the themes of corruption and revolution in it...
